History and Dates

Following the closure of NMMG and the subsequent loss of the Oxton meetings -
I've set up a new Meccano group called 'Oxton Meccano Gathering' or OMG for short - Oxton Village Hall booked for 2 meetings this year

Please note change of date - Saturday 26th September 2026

Modellers are asked to pay £5 each and Visitors £3 (only one charge if you bring a friend) - at the Admin Desk

This OMG Logo is now the official one for the Oxton Meccano Gathering - produced by David Astbury in Australia - I stuck it onto 6 white mugs with double sided carpet tape - cannot get it off - 4 sold for £5 at the 1st meeting - I was amazed - to have them produced professionally would cost aprox £12 and the print quality would be poorer - 12 more on way for Skegness (26th to 28th May)

No Table Top Sales

Sorry but there are no private table top sales - all tables are for Meccano models - just been to a Meccano meeting where late modellers with models could not find space due to excessive table top sales - if you have Meccano for sale please put it in the Auction.

The Auction

Matthew McCallum will be running another Auction on 26th September - following his successful one on 25th April which had a massive 34 lots - so please do bring any substantial items you want to sell - no rubbish please and it must be Meccano!

And my good friend John Bader (one of the few!) has volunteered to be the porter and will hold up the lots

The Raffle - £1 a Pop!

The 1st Raffle on 25th April was a great success - sold 154 tickets - 1st prize was a pair of Red Roller Bearing Plates which were won by David Astbury (a good customer in Australia) - he says he has never won anything in a raffle before - there will be another Raffle on 26th September - Prizes to be announced

Funding

At the 1st OMG meeting there were donations of £130 from 6 visitors - so the bank balance is now a healthy £647

Information and Ideas

Essentially the idea is to continue the excellent Oxton format with a few minor alterations - times will be 9.00 am to 5.00 pm - tables will be set up and put away by the caretaker - electricity cables were laid in the hall - cable trunking worked well but one person did lay his own cable dangerously across the floor - one day insurance cover was happily not needed

The Kitchen was operated by my wife Linda - awarded a Rosette labelled 'Queen For A Day' - I could not get one saying 'The Boss' or even 'I'm In Charge' - assisted by Emma (daughter and now official sandwich maker) and Savannah (grand daughter and now official cup of tea maker) - Ali (my son's partner did a great job on the Admin Table) - Ava and Etta (2 more grand daughters are now official Raffle Ticket sellers) - Ava has a particular talent for 'persuading' people they really do need a Raffle Ticket!

We just about sold out of food - cappuccinos and scones did not succeed so they will be scrapped - the brand new teapot was not used so it will probably end up in the next Raffle - the paper cups and plates were great saving washing up time and effort - the big black waste bin was essential - the chocolate cake was to die for (only a packet from Home Bargains + a few eggs) - several people said we were selling food too cheap  and gave extra money - Linda is thinking of a slight raise in prices for the cakes - but we are not necessarily looking to make a profit.

At the end of the Gathering we announced 'free food' for the little we had left - well you could hear the 'stampede'

The 3 Meccano dealers namely Mick, Tom/Matthew and son Robert (he ran my stall) all had a good day.

I plan to use this website for information and photos of models displayed at OMG - and 'Meccano Nuts' which is the biggest worldwide newsgroup with over 10,000 members!
